God's Perspective

One of my favourite characters in The Bible is David. His life is filled with many lessons we can glean from. When it comes to gaining Godly perspective I look to David's early life for wisdom.
We read in 1 Samuel 17 the account of when David came across Goliath. We first get introduced to Goliath as the champion of the Philistines, a person who has surpassed all rivals in a sporting contest or other competition (Verse 4). Their prized soldier that no army could withstand against. Verse 5-7 describe his armour that adds to his threatening nature. Many looked upon him and trembled, the army of Israel was in fear to fight him. (Verse 11) ‘Then Saul and all Israel head these word of the Philistine, they were dismayed and greatly afraid’
David at the time was tending the sheep for his families flock. One day he was asked by his father to get supplies for his brothers on the front line. He so happened to be there the time Goliath would call out his daily invite to the army of Israel ‘’If he is able to fight with me and kill me, then we will become your servants; but if I prevail against him and kill him, then you shall become our servants and serve us.’ The men of Israel were swung into panic, frantically doubting (verse 25)
But David didn’t have the same view as everyone else, his first response wasn’t to hide back in fear but to call Goliath exactly as he was, ‘Who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should taunt the armies of the living God?’ He wasn’t put off by the size, the aroma of fear and threat that Goliath carried, but David knew his position in Christ, he knew that in comparison to the greatness of our God, this man was just a sinner taunting the army of God.
Is there a Goliath in your life that is trying to put you down, mock and ridicule your very existence? What issue is appearing like a giant casting its shadow? Sometimes we forget to look at the situation as God sees it, a place to start is prayer.
‘Lord help me see this financial struggle/ family issue / relationship issue / personal health problems as you do, show me who you are in light of my suffering, reveal to me your very heart in this deepest moment so that my joy may be found in the strength of your nature.’
Many look to God to blame for the situation instead of looking at him as the source of victory. A good place to start in gaining a new perspective is discovering what he says about us.
A Child of God:
Romans 8:16: ‘The spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God.
Redeemed from the hand of the enemy
Psalm 107: ‘Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, whom he has redeemed from the hands of the enemy.
Forgiven
Colossians 1:13-14: ‘For he rescued us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the Kingdom of his beloved son in whom we have the redemption, the forgiveness of sins’
More than a conqueror
Romans 8:37: ‘But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through him who loved us’
The Righteousness of God
2 Corinthians 5:21: ‘He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf so that we might become the righteousness of God in him.’
I would urge you to find and own a perspective God has of you. Take a new one each week and speak it over your life until it is deeply imbedded into your identity.
When situations arise remain in the habit of seeing it through God's eye, remind yourself of who you are and what is rightfully yours.
When you see yourself as God does then you’ll see everything as God does.
